Bake Christmas Cookies And Other Sweets

By Beth Ogden

A classic Christmas tradition in many families is making cookies and other sweets, like fudge or candies. You can make them to enjoy yourself or give them away to others. Some of our favorites are sugar cookies, molasses or ginger cookies, monster cookies, fudge, and almond bark. If you need a recipe, there are plenty of great ones online. To get you started, though, here is our grandpa's recipe for peanut butter and chocolate fudge, which is delicious!

Chocolate-Peanut Butter Fudge

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup margarine
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 6 oz. package semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 7 oz. jar marshmallow creme
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

Combine 1 1/2 cups sugar, 6 Tbsp. margarine, and 1/3 cup milk in heavy 1 1/2 quart saucepan. Bring to a full rolling boil, stirring constantly. Continue boiling 4 minutes over medium heat, stirring constantly to prevent scorching. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips until melted. Add 1 cup marshmallow creme and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla; beat until well blended. Pour into greased 13 x 9 pan.

Repeat with remaining ingredients, substituting peanut butter for chocolate pieces. Spread over chocolate layer. Cool at room temperature. Cut into squares.

Enjoy!
