Start Thinking About Your Goals For The Future

By Chris Ogden

January 1st isn't far away, which means it's a good time to start thinking about New Year's resolutions.

Instead of waking up the morning after your New Year's Eve celebration and picking resolutions out of the air, we suggest taking some time now to reflect upon the past year and think about what you want to change in the year to come. Think about your beliefs, pick goals that align with them, and determine which habits will help you achieve those goals. Take your time to do this; it's easiest to commit to habits and goals that are truly aligned with who you are and what you want in life.

We recommend emphasizing the habits that will help you reach your goals over the goals themselves, since it is the habits you form that will get you to your goals. Another framework for goal-setting you might consider is “SMART” goals. SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. If you're not familiar with this framework, we recommend searching on the web for a more detailed breakdown. A goal should be meaningful if accomplished but not too ambitious that you have no idea where to begin.

We wish you the best of luck in accomplishing your goals!
