Notes

Some thoughts and observations (from Chris):

  • Early voting is possible at the Delaware County Board of Elections office through November 6th. And, of course, you can vote at your local polling place on November 8th.
  • We have the opportunity to elect Walton-native Eric Ball to State Senate. I think it would be great to have a true local representing us in Albany. On the campaign trail, Eric has been a staunch proponent of infrastructure and economic development as well as abortion rights.
  • Don't forget to vote yes on Proposition 1 (on the back of the ballot) to support funding for restoration and flood risk reduction, open space land conservation and recreation, climate change mitigation, and water quality improvement and resilient infrastructure. One of Delaware County's biggest assets is our access to spectacular nature; let's keep it this way!
  • Yesterday I ate at EIGHTYMain, a new restaurant in Delhi, where I had one of the best meals of my life. Spectacular food! It was also one of the priciest meals I've eaten, so be forewarned, but it's nice to have that option within a short drive.
  • While I was in Delhi I also enjoyed stopping into The Lost Bookshop (currently a pop-up at Bushel Collective, soon a permanent book store in Delhi) and grabbing a few new books. I appreciated the focus on nature and the Catskills, though they had a variety of other books as well.
  • I was too late in the day to stop into Luck Dragon, but I'm also looking forward to checking out this new arts and crafts space in Delhi. Check out their website for upcoming events and workshops including go, stitching and mending, analog computing, live-coding music, soldering for small electronics, etc.
  • Let's continue to support our local businesses and be more welcoming to new community members, and maybe we'll see more of this sort of thing in Walton!
  • You may have noticed a slightly different format to our bulletin last month if you read on our website. This is because I've begun to build some software to make writing the events section of the newsletter easier. This will also make some other features possible in the future (e.g., submitting your own events via a web form, seeing upcoming events beyond the next few weeks, etcetera). Stay tuned for more updates!
  • I will be traveling for most of the month of November, so this might be our only post until December. We'll have to see if I find time to write another mid-month...
