Welcome To Our New Website
The Waltonian originally launched in 2018 as an email newsletter on Substack, with the purpose of celebrating community in Walton, NY. While the newsletter will continue to operate (and you can sign up at the bottom of this page!), we thought it was time we had a proper website as well!
The newsletter will mainly focus on public events and current happenings, with additional links to other content posted here on this site. We'll use this site for longer essays, evergreen content, as well as some additional experiments.
I have some ideas about what I'd like to publish here:
- More seasonal content (like our Walton Advent Calendar), including:
- Articles on gardening and foraging
- "When and where to best see the Perseids meteor shower"
- Hiking trail guides
- Ideas for building strong towns & vibrant communities, like:
- Placemaking and beautification
- Town planning
- Zoning reform
- Interactive experiments and contests, such as:
- Village wide scavenger Hunts
- Youth essay contests
- Local trivia challenges
And more! I'd also love to hear what you would like to see, so feel free to reach out to me via our social media pages or email me!
One more thing: I want this site to become not only more of a community resource, but something that is community run as well. I'm still exploring what that might look like, but if you want to write an article, take place in brainstorming sessions, provide feedback and edits to articles in advance, contribute to software development or design of this site, or help moderate a future web forum for Waltonians, just let me know!
