Mid-September Bulletin
Here's some of what's happening in or around Walton over the next few weeks:
- The Village of Walton will apply for a NY Forward grant to revitalize our downtown area. Projects may include removing overhead wires, building renovations, new street lighting, public wi-fi access, and much more. They want to hear from you. You can pick up a simple survey at several downtown businesses to provide your input. Respondents will also be entered into a drawing to win a $50 gift certificate to spend in Walton. You have until September 15th to complete the survey.
- The Walton Theatre's Classic Flix for the month is The Magnificent Seven, on September 15th at 7:00pm.
- This year's opening Coffeehouse at the theatre, sponsored by Music on the Delaware, will be The Whispering Tree. September 15th, 6:00-8:00pm. More details on the Music on the Delaware website.
- Bushel Collective, in Delhi, is launching a monthly film night, starting September 16th, at 7:00pm (doors open at 6:45pm). The first screening will be Billy Wilder's Double Indemnity, with a discussion to follow after the screening.
- Movies by Moonight is back on the lawn of the Ogden Free Library, Saturdays at 7:00. Upcoming showings are:
- September 17: Raya and the Last Dragon
- September 24: Shrek
- October 1: The Princess Bride
- The Manhattan SHORT film festival will be screening short films at the Walton Theatre on September 22nd, at 2:00pm and 7:00pm, and September 24th, at 8:00pm.
- Homecoming Weekend will be September 24th. Parade at 10:00am and football game kickoff at 1:30pm.
- There will be a special storytelling event at the Walton Theatre on September 25th at 3:00pm. Six women from the Delaware County area will tell their personal stories.
- The next Walton First Friday will be October 7th (the first friday of the month), from 4:00-8:00pm. A bunch of your favorite Walton businesses will be open late.
The last newsletter asked the following trivia question: "The first mayor of Chicago was born in Walton. What was his first name?". The correct answer was C (William).
William B. Ogden was born in Walton and spent his childhood in the area, before going on to become the first mayor of the newly founded Chicago. He also later became the president of the Union Pacific Railroad. In his later years, he donated the money for Walton's beautiful public library to be built, which is the building that our library still stands in today.
